About Canon

Canon is a market leading camera maker, dominating digital SLR sales with over 40% market share in recent years. The number of EOS digital SLRs in their line-up is a factor behind the popularity; offering a multitude of choices from entry-level beginner Canon digital SLRs to full-frame professional DSLRs with weather sealing. Today‘s EOS line-up includes advanced features like 1080p video capture, live view, articulating LCD screens, wireless flash control and last but not least, stunning high-resolution image capture with CMOS sensors.

The EOS DSLR range is complimented with a selection of over 50 Canon EF lenses, catering for every scenario and preference. The current EF lens mount (EF is an acronym for ‘Electro-Focus’) was introduced in 1987, replacing the old FD mount. Canon lenses feature cutting-edge technology to help photographers capture their image, including autofocus driven by ultrasonic motor drive (USM) and image stabilisation (IS) to reduce the effects of camera shake. For more information please see the CameraPricer lens glossary. Canon also produces a subset of lenses with an EF-S mount, designed specifically for digital SLRs with APS-C size sensors. EF-S lenses cannot be mounted on full-frame digital SLRs, whereas standard EF lenses can be mounted on either APS-C or full-frame cameras.

Accessories on offer include Canon Speedlites for EOS cameras. These advanced flashguns include Canon‘s version of through-the-lens (TTL) metering, the latest being E-TTL II (released in 2004). Canon flashguns like the 580EX II and 430EX II can be used directly on the camera‘s hot-shoe connector or off-camera with wired or wireless triggering.
